AL-2-D2
Directors Viewfinder 2.0
A directors viewfinder that turns a photo or a short walk through a location into a navigable 3D scene, so directors and cinematographers can find their shots after the scout, on the bus or at home.
Three ways to capture a location
Viewfinder
Frame ratios 4:3, 16:9, 17:9, 2:1, 2.35:1 and more. Focal lengths are matched to real sensors, with the field of view computed optically from the iPhone camera. Red frame lines, a white still key and a red video key. It is free.
Still to 3D
One picture becomes a layered scene. Take it with the camera or choose it from Photos. Depth is estimated on the device. Move the camera, change the lens and save angles.
LiDAR scan
Walk the room. The app fuses the LiDAR depth and the camera frames into one textured mesh. Every still you take during the walk stays placed in the 3D space. It gives live guidance as you walk. This is the most accurate mode, and the only one of its kind for scouting on a phone.
What you do with a scene
Walk it with a virtual camera.
Set the focal length and the frame ratio.
Keyframe angles into a shotlist.
Render camera moves to MP4.
Export stills as JPG or PNG, and moves as video.
Exports are made to serve as references for image to video and video to video generative work. That ties the app to the ARTOS Labs pipeline.
Who it is for
Directors, cinematographers, production designers and previs artists. Use it on tech scouts and on set.
It stays on your phone
Everything runs on the device. Everything stays on the phone.
It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 and later. On iPhone, it runs on iPhone 12 and later. The 3D capture features use the LiDAR scanner on Pro models.
Free viewfinder, one paid 3D tier
The viewfinder is free. Scene creation, walk capture, stand ins, camera moves and library export sit in one paid 3D tier.
What comes next
Stills as hero views, placed in the LiDAR scene.
Gaussian splat scenes for photographic rendering.
Stand ins as posable mannequins, from tracked people.
Polish localisation.
